Publishers run on average a 40-50% sell through, therefore at any given time when the next issue comes out, you will be returning half of the magazines you receive. This is to avoid outages; sellouts as a result of a popular cover or content. A popular celebrity or hot topic could spike that magazine’s sales for a particular week and month. Our technology constantly monitors your allotments and automatically adjusts your numbers either up or down based upon your particular sales requirements.

 The percentage of copies of a particular title that are received and sold versus returned. Publishers of magazines like to run a sell-through of 40-50%. Some publishers however are the exception to that rule in that they run sell-through numbers that are much higher. 

While the average sell-through is 40-50%, some publishers choose much higher sell-through numbers in order to create more efficiency. The result is that we only receive a limited supply and are unable to get more ourselves. This limited supply goes to those locations that prove to sell the copies.

2. If you have more than one issue, check the issue codes and keep the higher number. Occasionally there are monthly and special issue titles running with the same bipad… keep the highest number of the monthly and the highest number of the special issue. Note: monthlies run 01 – 12 and generally, special issues use higher numbers.

Magazines, like eggs and milk are perishable. An old story is a story that is not interesting anymore, therefore it is important to display your magazines as soon as they arrive. No one wants to buy last week’s People Magazine. The faster the titles are on display the more sales you will achieve.

   > For Magazines have the title, bipad and issue code
   > For books use the ISBN and title

Usually on the bottom corner of any magazine you will find both bipad and issue code.  Note, for US magazines, often the Canadian bipad will be placed vertically on the left hand side of the bar code.

Usually at the back of the book cover, at the bottom, you will find the ISBN.

All unsold magazines are shredded and 100% recycled. Books either have their covers stripped and are shredded, or are returned as a full copy back to the publisher.

Our agreements with our publishers will not allow this, as all unsold magazines must be shredded and recycled.
